Department of Biotechnology

The department offers a four year course leading to the Bachelor of Technology degree in Biotechnology . The department was established in the year 2002, and in the second year itself it has been rated as fourth (among the affliated Engineering colleges of Anna University) in a public survey conducted jointly by A.C. Nielson / Sun TV group.  A senior Professor with a Doctorate from I.I.T Bombay, with several years of industrial experience heads the department. The faculty is drawn from various fields of study including Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Genetic engineering, and  Molecular biology.

The department has state of art laboratories in the field of Chemical Engineering,  Genetic engineering, Bioprocessing, Downstream processing, Bio-organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell biology and Microbiology. The department has advanced infrastructural facilities for conducting research work in the field of Bioinformatics, Drug discovery and Environmental Biotechnology. The  department is one of the seven collegiate  departments  selected for ongoing research to find a solution for tuberculosis under Open Source Drug  Discovery (OSDD) project by CSIR.

Every year the  department organises conferences and guest lectures in contemporary topics related to Biotechnology. Special coaching is given to students to qualify in competitive exams like GATE and GRE. The students of our department have consistently secured University Ranks.  Many of our alumini students  are pursuing  higher studies and research in renowned Universities around the globe like University of Harvard, Texas ,Perth and Singaspore. Our students have also been placed in CSIR  labs and many Pharmaceutical companies.
